Cheap tote bags are everywhere. They’re given as gifts at every sporting event, craft fair, art opening, film festival, and sold at every grocery store. Same with reusable water bottles, cute “eco-conscious” souvenirs that are made from virgin materials, usually somewhere far away. They’re manufactured, stamped, and shipped overseas, so they can pile up on dusty shelves and fill cabinets. You can’t re-use something that never gets used!
It’s obvious that disposable bags and single-use plastic water bottles are no good, but are we moving in the right direction?
Why not use what’s already here? The next time you’re planning an event, ask if it’s the right move to produce more of something. The next time someone offers you a tote bag or a water bottle, try saying “no thanks.”
And if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by for a drink of water: we’ve got plenty of nice glasses to drink from here at the MAFIA workshop.
