Welcome to the Family 3.0
Mafia first started as a pursuit to find the perfect bag to carry our wetsuits around the world -- going from plane to beach and back again -- all while saving used sails from the landfill. It started as a community based brand where friends both donated sails and used our packs. We learned as we went but had the feeling that we were on to something big.
We now operate in four countries, have a growing team of employees, and have expanded our product line to not only include the perfect globe-trotting wetsuit bag, but also a refined collection of versatile packs and totes to accommodate both beach and city lifestyles. We regularly work with industry leaders such as Patagonia Provisions, Adam Savage, Vans, Reef, SF MoMA, the Stanford Design School, and many others to bring you innovative products from reclaimed materials.
Our belief in a low-impact lifestyle guides every decision we make -- from reusing cardboard shipping boxes to guaranteeing every product we make with a lifetime warrantee. Sustainability has always been second nature to Mafia through our use of reclaimed sails, and has connected us to the wider like-minded community such as B-Corporation, of which we have been members since 2013.
We are also dedicated to the community in which we live, employing local people to cut and sew each bag here in California.
When you get a Mafia bag, you're also getting a piece of the ocean, supporting local community & sustainable practices.
Individual identity is celebrated through unique designs. Materials become alive again as the wind and sea.

The Story
Brother-and-sister business partners Marcos and Paz Mafia launched their eponymous company MAFIA in their hometown of Buenos Aires in 2012, fusing their passion for nautical sports and sustainable business practices to create an upcycling bag manufacturing company. Formerly a professional kitesurfer, the idea for MAFIA struck Marcos upon realizing that the piles of sturdy, colorful sails stashed away untouched in storage facilities could be repurposed into versatile bags for everyday carry. MAFIA grew quickly through word of mouth.
In 2012 MAFIA opened its flagship retail store in Buenos Aires while continuing to expand ts collection of one-of-a-kind designs for backpacks, bags, and accessories. Built from recycled sails donated directly to the company from athletes, organizations, and every day citizens, no two MAFIA products are alike. Upon expanding to San Francisco in 2014, MAFIA raised more than $25,000 through a successful Kickstarter campaign to open a storefront and office with in-house production in the city. Today MAFIA is headquartered in San Francisco’s SoMa district and carries 16 styles of handmade backpacks, totes, duffels, messenger bags, and accessories. In 2015 MAFIA opened its third retail location in Tokyo, with a fourth shop in London on the way.
