Jay Nelson & Rachel Kaye

We’ve worked with Jay Nelson on a number of projects over the years, making custom pieces for his one-of-a-kind structures. Jay builds with salvaged wood, we work with upcycled sails — between the two of us, we’ve just about got enough materials to build a whole boat. 

We’ve always admired Jay’s craft and his philosophy of building with intention and creating thoughtful, functional spaces that feel good to be in. After several collaborations, including a sitting structure we still love, we now share a studio with Jay and his wife, Rachel Kaye, a painter and successful local artist. Together they run Kaye Nelson Studio, and our shared space in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset has become a creative home base. It reflects what we all care about: practicality, community, and working with our hands.
